Hang Party…Where Brixton Meets Harlem

HangParty arrives in Brixton as part of the Brixton X Harlem Festival. Inspired by Hang Night’s™ salon-style evening of creative expression in Harlem. Designed to catalyse a diverse and inclusive creative community, HangParty is an annual showcase where artists of every genre at every stage of development are seen and heard.

Curated by our Front of House team, HangParty presents an eclectic mix of visual arts, an open mic for poetry, and vocal performers but may also include dance performers, musicians, or a mini-fashion presentation – you’ll have to come by to see!

Art Viewing Celebration | Thurs 4 Aug | 6:00pm

This evening is dedicated to the Artists of Brixton with their work exhibited all over our foyer and gallery space. Celebrate the creativity of artists from all experiences and disciplines accompanied by a DJ playing the best of R&B from the US and UK.

Art Workshop | Fri 5 Aug | 5:30pm

Get fully involved in a Creative Art workshop where you will be led by an amazing art facilitator who will guide you through the creative process and allow you room to express yourself through whatever you produce. We will provide the resources so all you need to bring is an open mind and a desire to create some art work!

Poetry and Spoken Word Workshop | Fri 5 Aug | 7:30pm

Facilitated by Memo Brown, Memo likes to create spaces where everyone feel their art is valued and everyone is allowed to ‘play’, explore and create. This workshop will be using visual stimuli, prompts and group work to allow participants to create their own pieces of poetry.

Open Mic Night | Sat 6 Aug | 6:00pm til late

Regardless of experience, if you perform music, poetry, spoken word, or comedy, book your free ticket either as audience, or as a performer to share your work with the Brixton community. Then, join us for a HangParty Celebration in the bar with a US-UK DJ set til late.

All of the events embrace Brixton locals, ranging from children to elders. Our safe space is judgement free for creatives and appreciators of the arts to joyfully share and exchange. We highly encourage visual and performing artists who’ve never publicly expressed themselves to show up and exhibit, and meet new potential friends and collaborators!

We all want to make it.
Make it in our chosen career. Maybe make it big.

Sometimes perhaps just make it to pay day.
But whatever our ambition, what unites us all is the desire to thrive, be recognised – and be supported.
And that’s what Lambeth’s Creative Enterprise Zone is all about. Supporting creative people to do amazing creative things without having to leave our amazingly creative corner of south London.
Because we all want to make it – of course – but more than that, we want to Make It in Brixton.
