Repurposing Buildings for Community Wealth and Creative Workspace

Creative Land Trust has been established to secure long term, affordable space for artists and creatives, ensuring a vibrant and prosperous future for this critical industry, enriching communities and strengthening London.

We discuss how Creative Land Trust are currently working with London Borough Newham to restore a vacant property to beneficial use, including a focus on Newham’s Community Wealth Building strategy, Greater London Authority’s High Streets for All Challenge and the partnership approach required kickstart the process.

Through the roundtable discussion, we explore some of the challenges facing vacant properties and creative industries and how we envisage the two can be paired to deliver social and economic value to local communities.

This talk was part of The Space In Between festival hosted by Make It in Brixton in October 2021.

We all want to make it.
Make it in our chosen career. Maybe make it big.

Sometimes perhaps just make it to pay day.
But whatever our ambition, what unites us all is the desire to thrive, be recognised – and be supported.
And that’s what Lambeth’s Creative Enterprise Zone is all about. Supporting creative people to do amazing creative things without having to leave our amazingly creative corner of south London.
Because we all want to make it – of course – but more than that, we want to Make It in Brixton.
