Windrush Art Fence – Open Submissions

June 2023 will see the creation of London’s largest outdoor art experience, Windrush Art Fence. Transforming 400m of the Brockwell Live music festival’s perimeter wall into an alfresco expression of community imagination, Windrush Art Fence will mark and celebrate the contribution of the Windrush generation, 75 years after the Empire Windrush docked at Tilbury.

Co-created with the local community, schools, artists and archives, the fence will feature five themes examining Black Britain – and Brixton’s central place in UK multiculturalism. Ancestry, Island Life, Building Britain, Carnival and The Future will examine the past, present and future in accessible and impactful fashion, transforming Brockwell Park for locals and festival-goers alike. We would like to feature artwork by your students around Windrush and/or the Windrush themes (Ancestry, Island Life, Building Britain, Carnival, The Future). This can be existing artwork that has been created in the past or it can be new artworks. The artwork would ideally be portrait, however if it is already existing pieces we can discuss how we can incorporate them into the fence.

The final artwork must relate to Windrush and should be suitable for large scale reproduction. This is an un-paid opportunity.

If you would like to get involved with the project, please use the form below to register your interest and submit your artwork.

Opportunity Expires: July 1, 2023
