Now that the UK is no longer part of the EU, people living in the UK from EU countries must apply for settlement status if they have not done so already. If you’re an EU, EEA or Swiss citizen, you and your family can apply to the EU Settlement Scheme to continue living in the UK after 30 June 2021.
From July this year EU nationals who haven’t applied to the EU Settlement Scheme (EUSS) risk losing the right to live and work in the UK. It is free to apply for settled status and it grants a person the same rights to healthcare, education, benefits and pensions as a British citizen.
This month the Joint Council for the Welfare of Immigrants said: “On 1 July 2021 anyone who has yet to apply, or apply successfully, will be left without immigration status and exposed to the consequences of the hostile environment; at risk of losing their jobs, homes, access to benefits, and healthcare, driving licences, detention, criminalisation and removal – a second Windrush, but on a much bigger scale.”
We all want to make it.
Make it in our chosen career. Maybe make it big.
Sometimes perhaps just make it to pay day.
But whatever our ambition, what unites us all is the desire to thrive, be recognised – and be supported.
And that’s what Lambeth’s Creative Enterprise Zone is all about. Supporting creative people to do amazing creative things without having to leave our amazingly creative corner of south London.
Because we all want to make it – of course – but more than that, we want to Make It in Brixton.
